Terry Fox is a Toronto District School Board Elementary school located in Scarborough, Ontario. The Intermediate vocal students have been working on Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” since the end of September, 2018. The 31 grade 7 and 8 students attend hour long classes, twice a week. The students are mainly immigrants and first generation Canadians, many of whom are English Language Learners. Our class welcomes students with Attention Deficit Disorder, and students on the Spectrum. The recording of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” features two soloists, Mushahid Khan in grade 7 and Yolanda Ding in grade 8. The video submission was produced by Chloe Chu and Vivian Su and the song was chosen by the music teacher, Hope Thomas, who has taught vocal and instrumental music at Terry Fox for sixteen years.
