The World Music Program at Stratford Hall is a unique blend of musical influences from Japan and Africa. Students from grade 6 to grade 10 develop an awareness of these two cultures’ and their musical language, through playing and studying Japanese Taiko drumming and African Marimba. Students are encouraged to discover and develop their own musical ideas and creativity. Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes performed by the 9/10 music class is a unique example of how traditional world instruments are used to reinterpret a Canadian pop song. Students are self-directed and encouraged to be part of the process of developing and arranging any and all music they perform.
