We are a holistic private school, meaning we simultaneously educate our students on physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels. There is a great age discrepancy between the youngest and the oldest student (4 and 13). Our small classroom is like a big family, not to mention that many of the students are siblings. From this stems a healthy environment of mutual support and respect. We use songs to teach empathy, exercise creative thought and learn French. This semester our school has been working on a production of "Seussical the Musical", which we are putting on this December. Our boys and girls were moved by the stories and culture of the northern territories, ergo "Northern Lights" is our song! The group figured out the chords to the song, wrote out the lyrics, composed the upper voice harmony and choreographed it all by themselves! It was really neat to watch how the creation of the song progressed: the students started with seven ukuleles and five percussionists, but, needless to say, the singing in our first video was almost inaudible. Slowly, we cut it down to just one ukulele, body percussion, and shakers to imitate the wind and keep our younger students busy. Our students decided to send you this imperfect version of the song, because they believe it showcases who they truly are: children having fun and trying their best. Without any further adieu, please enjoy the cover of the tune “Northern Lights” by Jerry Cans, as played by our enthusiastic group!
